More about Pristine ingredients:
Australian Marine Phytoplankton
- Phytoplankton are high in essential fatty acids, which are the building blocks of healthy cells for humans and animals. They also provide deep, enduring moisture to the skin, by being a source of moisture assisting skin to hold on to its moisture instead of excreting it to the surface. These fatty acids can help by providing the components that skin needs to restore itself. While many of these components can be obtained from food that we feed our pets, they are efficiently utilized also when applied topically to the damaged area or when maintaining skin health.
Our phytoplankton contain vital enzymes along with Vitamin B and powerful antioxidants these enzymes help to nourish skin especially during healthy aging and manage skin issues and allergies. Our Phytoplankton antioxidant and chlorophyll content helps to protect skin not just removing free radicals by also blocking UV light. Our phytoplankton has important antibacterial properties, which, along with its natural moisturising properties may support our pet’s healthy skin and coat as a first line of defence against environmental toxins. With high zinc content necessary for the regeneration of skin cells and promote stronger skin.
Australian Sandalwood Hydrosol
Australian Sandalwood is often costly but well worth it. Pristine has been carefully formulated using a 100% pure base of Sandalwood Hydrosol, Sandalwood Hydrosol is a delicately scented 100% botanical extract from the Sandalwood spicatum tree, Santalum spicatum, the Australian sandalwood tree is native to the south of Western Australia. Hydrosols are also known as ‘essential waters’ as they do not contain concentrated essential oils. A hydrosol is a water-soluble solution that is left over from the process of steam distilling plants that make essential oils. When an essential oil is extracted, the plant material (such as Sandalwood) is exposed to steam. The steam brings out the oils in the plant and together the steam and oil travel to an apparatus that slowly cools them down so they can separate again into oil and water. The essential oil sits on the top of the water so it can be collected. Meanwhile, the leftover water becomes the hydrosol, containing trace amounts (usually less than five percent) of the suspended essential oils, a unique hydrosol with significant healing properties.
Hydrosols contain plant essences as well as the water-soluble plant matter that essential oils lack. Sandalwood hydrosol is gentle, powerful, versatile and therapeutic. Sandalwood Hydrolsol is safe for dogs and most pets and has mild but effective antiseptic and soothing properties to calm, protect and nurture your pet. It is often used to help treat fungal infections, assist with reducing inflammation and it is also used in natural flea repellent. Another popular use for Sandalwood is to be diluted and sprayed on to bedding to help relieve dog flu symptoms.
“Less is more” when it comes to the natural healing properties of Sandalwood Hydrosol.
Australian Kakadu Plum Extract
- The Kakadu Plum (Terminalia ferdinandiana) native fruit known as “The Gift of Dreamtime” and boasts the highest recorded levels of Vitamin C of any fruit in the world making it a supreme antioxidant. Studies show the concentration of vitamin C in Kakadu Plum to be as high as 3200-5000mg/100g, compared to 50mg/100g for oranges. Vitamin C plays an important role in a wide variety of bodily functions and is regarded as essential for healthy well being in dogs. As an example, it is involved in the production of collagen and elastin which can be found in their skin, bones, muscles, and tendons.
Much research has been done on the benefits of Vitamin C and dogs on a regimen of this vitamin are much less likely to develop skin problems. Cats will benefit too, as it can help prevent urinary tract infections and kidney disease. Wendell O. Belfield, DVM. Author of ‘How to Have a Healthier Dog’, had over fifteen years of clinical experience, and after working with over two thousand animals, saw that dogs definitely benefit from extra Vitamin C.
Australian Aloe Vera (micro distilled)
- Topically Aloe vera has many benefits too. Aloe has been shown to have antibacterial, antifungal and anti-inflammatory properties, making it soothing to the skin. It contains prostaglandins, which may reduce inflammation, promote healing and alleviate allergic reactions. In addition to prostaglandins, according to Shawn Messonnier, DVM and author – Acemannan the main active ingredient in Aloe, a polysaccharide immune stimulant that strengthens and supports the immune system and may be helpful for pets with allergies, skin infections, and other fungal disorders. Aloe Vera contains 12 other polysaccharides, as well as a series of enzymes, minerals, aethereal oils, saponin and lignin (secondary active ingredients). Similar to the willow bark, Aloe Vera contains Salicyl acid. Salicyl acid can be called natures Aspirin which may give your pet temporary relief from pain and inflammation.
